We've Moved!

Hey Peeps,

Well it's been a fun run for the last month or so, but Skin Deep is on the move. I've been playing around with Tumblr and quite frankly, I am in some serious like with it. I would LOVE it if you would come find me there. Let me know and I'd love to follow you too!

Winning Over the Healthnostic

Andrew and I love to cook together. It's pretty much our favorite sort of date. Yesterday I got a vision... turkey burgers. I knew it'd be a hard sell, because Andrew is automatically opposed to anything he perceives as healthy, but as soon as I said avocado, I knew I'd have him. I had eaten turkey burgers that were prepackaged before, but last night we picked up a pack of ground turkey and went for it ourselves. The result: magical.

Not a great shot, but you get the gist. We kept it simple. Ground turkey, sauteed, diced onions, cumin, a whole lot of garlic salt, and pepper. We stuffed them with monterey jack cheese and grilled (this is where I thank George Foreman, not only for naming all of his children George, which I think is awesome, but for inventing the grill that feeds me). Topped with Avocado, butter leaf lettuce, & romas, it was good stuff. So good, it makes a believer out of the most healthnostic soul.

The Loot

My fashion inspiration is my grandmother Carol June Donny. She is absolutely the most stylish woman I have ever met. I will post more pics of her someday, but the only one I have on me is one of us on Christmas morning in PJ's and with no make up. I just couldn't do that to her. I owe every inch of style in me to her and about 1/3 of my sassiness. She put a Vogue in my hands at the age of 8 and a W at the age of 10 and for that I am forever thankful. She exudes a confidence and is always willing to take a fashion risk. She dressed for herself, she dressed for my Apa while he was here, and she dressed to make every other woman envious.

We "shook the racks" this weekend. Here's some of the loot we turned out.

First stop: Target Clearance. I don't know if you've noticed, but Target has been turning out some FAB jewelry lately, however it's been a little pricey. I may pay $40 bucks for a Kenneth Cole piece, but that ain't gonna happen at Tar-jay. So, when they get designers to come in, the Jewelry usually gets marked down. I've been eyeing this little ditty for a few months now.

Original Price: 39.99
my price: 9.95!

Yep, I'll take that.

Next, I must confess to you... I am a Maxxinista! I'm in love and OBSESSED with TJ Maxx. It's my dirty little secret.

Check out this tuxedo inspired, gorgeous, shrunken little black number:

D & G makes one:

but, it retails for $1,667.00 at Neimans.

Free People has one:

but it's still $100 bucks.

Check out my tag:

And that's why I'll love you forever and I'll like you for always, TJ MAXX.

Go shake some racks my loves!

What Are Your Clothes Doing for You?

"Fashion was not only supposed to make women beautiful, but to reassure them, to give them confidence, to allow them to come to terms with themselves." Yves St. Laurent

I'll be your best friend...

I've always been obsessed with words and the process of writing. My great grandfather wrote love stories, so the romantic in me (which is pretty much all of me) thinks it's in my DNA. I found this vintage typewriter on monkeybox. I'm in love. Just think of all the wonderful words typed on it and it's oh so pretty too.

best part is, she got it for $5 at a thrift store. Serious! If you find me one, I'll be your best friend.

Montegues and Capelets

What I really want right now is some sort of cape, or Caplet if you will. They are feminine, romantic, and just plain old yummy.

Here are some you can buy me if you want:

My new personal hero Alexis from My Mama Made It did this one... (she's an etsy seller)

Here is Leighton Meister in one:

And this one which actually makes me want to cry or something:

What to look for:

1. keep it short, full length capes are for homeschoolers and wizards, sometimes both.

2. Avoid knit ones that have no shape, it'll just look like you didn't have the will power to finish crocheting your sweater.

3. Check out etsy for fab ones that are unique, or forever 21 if you're on a tight budget.

Happy Hunting!
